ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens outside hitter Meredith Jones has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Catawba setter Rachel Stanford was tabbed AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches played Nov. 1 – Nov. 7, the League announced today.
Jones, a senior from Blythewood, S.C. posted 52 kills, 32 digs and averaged a .308 hitting percentage to lead Queens to three conference wins last week. She averaged 4.73 kills per set in the 3-1 win over Carson-Newman as she recorded 18 kills and 10 digs against the Eagles. Jones also added 23 kills in the 3-1 win over Lincoln Memorial. The award is her third Player of the Week plaudit of the season.
Stanford, a junior from Mechanicsville, VA, led Catawba to wins over South Atlantic Conference foes Lenoir-Rhyne, Lincoln Memorial and Carson-Newman last week. Stanford averaged 11.64 assists over the 11 sets and totaled 128 assists and 2.09 digs per set. In the 3-2 win over Lenoir-Rhyne, Stanford piled up 53 assists and 13 digs and in the sweep over Lincoln Memorial on November 4, she averaged 13.33 assists per set. Catawba has now won six-straight matches. The award is her second South Atlantic Conference Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
