The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week, Oct. 4 (Watch)

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Newberry middle blocker Madison Darby-McClure has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while setter Rachel Alles of Wingate was tabbed AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches played Sep. 27 – Oct. 3, the League announced today.

Darby-McClure, a senior from Colorado Springs, CO, led Newberry to wins over Coker, Mars Hill, and Tusculum last week. She recorded a team high of 16 kills in both games against Coker and Mars Hill and finished with 42 kills total. Darby-McClure averaged 4.20 kills per set and a .493 attacking percentage. She also finished with seven blocks and 46.5pts for the week. The award is her first Player of the Week plaudit of the season.

Alles, a freshman from Tinley Park, IL, helped her team to a 3-1 record on the week by defeating Conference foes Anderson, Lenoir-Rhyne, and Brevard. In the sweep of Anderson, Alles recorded 41 assists and 12 digs while leading the offense to a .341 hitting percentage. In the September 30 win over Lenoir-Rhyne, Alles had 16 assists, five digs and two aces. Against fifth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit, she had 42 assists and seven digs, while also playing a rotation at right-side hitter, piling up eight kills in 19 swings to hit .368. Alles averaged 10.08 assists, 2.50 digs, and 1.08 kills per set. The award is her first Specialist of the Week plaudit of the season.
