ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lincoln Memorial hitter Samantha Cash has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Catawba setter Rachel Stanford was tabbed AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches played Oct. 24 – Oct. 31, the League announced today.
Cash, a sophomore from New Carlisle, OH, led the Lady Railsplitters to three wins last week over South Atlantic Conference rivals Mars Hill, Wingate, and Tusculum. She hit above .300 and recorded at least eight kills in each match. Cash compiled eight kills, four assists, and two digs in the sweep at Mars Hill.
She led the Lady Railsplitters to a 3-2 win over Wingate with a team-high 12 kills on a .303 attack percentage to go along with 11 digs, three aces and two assists. In the sweep over Tusculum, Cash recorded 11 kills and four assists. The award is her first Player of the Week plaudit of the season.
Stanford, a junior from Mechanicsville, VA, led Catawba to a 3-0 record last week with victories over Coker, Mars Hill and Tusculum. Stanford averaged 11.18 assists per set and recorded 123 assists. On October 25th at Coker, she recorded 40 assists and 11 digs while averaging 13.3 assists over the three sets. In the win over Mars Hill she recorded 48 assists and 17 digs and she added another 35 assists in the sweep over Tusculum. The award is her first South Atlantic Conference Specialist of the Week honor.
