The South Atlantic Conference Announces Volleyball Players of the Week, Sept. 29

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lenoir-Rhyne outside hitter Brooke Redmond was selected as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Wingate's Iris Brewer was chosen as the AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches played Sept. 21-27, the League announced today.

Redmond, a sophomore from Statesville, N.C., averaged 12.7 kills and 12.3 digs on the week, leading the Bears to a 3-0 record against Conference opponents. Against Brevard and Anderson, Redmond recorded double-doubles, including a week-high 15 kills and 19 digs against the Trojans. In Lenoir-Rhyne's three set victory over Brevard, she tallied 11 digs, 10 kills and hit .348. Redmond leads Lenoir-Rhyne with 102 kills as the Bears are tied for first in Conference standings at 6-1. The honor marks her first Player of the Week nod this season.

Brewer, a senior from Cincinnati, Ohio, led the Bulldogs to a perfect week, posting 10.10 assists per set and added 3.50 digs, 0.80 kills and 0.40 blocks per set in the process. Brewer finished the week with 101 assists, 47 of which came in Wingate's victory over LMU on Sep. 26 – a contest where she also recorded three kills, two blocks, and an ace. Four days earlier, Brewer had 18 assists and eight digs in two sets against Coker, where the Bulldogs swept the Cobras in three sets. Brewer also helped Wingate hand Carson-Newman their first SAC loss of the year, as she piled up 36 assists, 16 digs, three kills and a block. Her performance this week assisted Wingate into moving to a first place tie with Lenoir-Rhyne and Carson-Newman in League standings. The award is her first Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
