The South Atlantic Conference Announces Volleyball Players of the Week, Sept. 15

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Players of the Week for matches played Sept. 8-13.  Wingate middle blocker Abby Saehler was tabbed the Player of the Week, while Wingate's Kimberly Hovey was selected as Volleyball Specialist of the Week.

Saehler, a junior from Iowa City, Iowa, led the #23 Bulldogs to a 4-0 record last week including two SAC wins. She posted double-digit kills in all four of her matches, tallying 11 in her first match of the week against UNC Pembroke. Against Erksine, Saehler recorded 11 kills and 11 digs, hitting .391 in a four set victory.  She continued the success against Tusculum with 13 kills, seven digs and four blocks. In her final match of the week, Saehler had 13 kills, seven digs and four blocks. On the week, Sahlet hit .316 averaging 3.69 kills, 2.0 digs and 0.77 blocks per set. The honor marks her first Player of the Week nod this season.

Hovey, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., recorded 82 digs on the week in Wingate's 4-0 run. In the three set sweep matches against UNC Pembroke and Tusculum, Hovey collected 17 digs in each bout and had 20 in their match against Erksine. She capped off the week with a week-high 28 digs against Mars Hill, bringing her to 5.86 digs per set for the week. The award is her first Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
