The South Atlantic Conference Announces Volleyball Players of the Week, Sept. 22

ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Sara Fairley was selected as the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Brevard's Erin Barr was chosen as the AstroTurf SAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches played Sept. 13-20, the League announced today.

Fairley, a senior from Charlotte, N.C., totaled 36 kills, 19 digs and hit .301 on the week to lead the Eagles to a pair of Conference wins, improving their record to 4-0 in league play. In the Eagles three set sweep against Catawba, Fairley set a career-high with 16 kills and tallied her third double-double of the year. Carson-Newman's match against Queens saw Fairley reset her career-high with 20 kills, helping the Eagles to a four-set victory over the Royals. The honor marks her first Player of the Week nod this season.

Barr, a sophomore from Hamptonville, N.C., came away with 86 assists, averaged 10.75 assists per set, and collected 22 digs in a 1-1 week as Brevard defeated Coker 3-1 before falling to No. 23 Wingate in four sets. In setting a career-high 51 assists in the Tornados' victory over Coker, Barr surpassed her previous career-high of 50 that was set the previous Friday against LMU. This feat places her third on the BC career list in total assists in Brevard's NCAA era. Barr picked up 11 digs in each contest and her fourth double-double was recorded in the last five matches with 35 assists against Wingate. The award is her first Specialist of the Week plaudit this season.
