The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week, Sept. 16
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Mars Hill's Alex Griggs has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, while Catawba's Abbie Adams has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week for races Sept. 7-13, the League announced today.
Griggs, a senior from Statesville, N.C. finished sixth in the 8k race in the Division II segment of the Furman Classic in Greenville, S.C. on Sept. 12. He crossed the finish line with a time of 25:31:62, leading the Lions to a fourth place finish at the meet. Mars Hill was also the top finishing South Atlantic Conference team with 126 points. The award is Griggs' first Runner of the Week plaudit this season.
Adams, a freshman from Piedmont, S.C. opened the season in her first collegiate race with a first-place finish at the Elon University Invitational in the 5k with a time of 19:54. She led Catawba to a second place finish, with herself taking the overall Division II women's win. Adams' 5k time ranks her 12th in Catawba's history. This honor marks her first Runner of the Week nod this season.
