The South Atlantic Conference Announces AstroTurf SAC Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Runners of the Week, Sept. 9
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Lachlan Dickie of Carson-Newman and Whitney Elliott of Lincoln Memorial have been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Runners of the Week, respectively, the League announced today.
Dickie, a sophomore from Knoxville, Tenn. had a first place finish at the Victor Ashe Fall Classic in Knoxville, Tenn. this past Saturday, crossing the line with a time of 16:24:7 in the 5k race. Dickie averaged a 5:16.9 mile in the race and finished 16 seconds ahead of the runner-up. His performance helped the Eagles to a third-place overall finish at the meet. The win marked Dickie's second first-place finish in his career. The award is Dickie's first Runner of the Week plaudit this season.
Elliott, a junior from LaFollette, Tenn., started the season out strong at the Sewanee Invitational with a career-best second-place finish with a 6k time of 23:09:28. Elliott crossed the finish line 12 seconds ahead of the third place finisher, leading the Lady Railsplitters to a fourth place finish at the 2015 season opener. Prior to this race, Elliott had never finished higher than fifth place in a race. She looks to continue the success as the LMU women's cross country team heads to Greenville, S.C. for the Furman Classic on Saturday, Sept. 12. This honor marks her first Runner of the Week nod this season.
