SAC Hires Mangrum as Coordinator of Softball Umpires
Shelley Mangrum, who has nearly 20 years of umpiring experience on her résumé, has been hired as the SAC’s new Coordinator of Softball Umpires, commissioner Patrick Britz announced on Wednesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Shelley Mangrum, who has nearly 20 years of umpiring experience on her résumé, has been hired as the SAC's new Coordinator of Softball Umpires, commissioner Patrick Britz announced on Wednesday.
Mangrum has a diverse background in softball umpiring. She is a member of several NCAA Division I umpire rosters, including the SEC, Big 12, Big East, ACC, Missouri Valley Conference, Conference-USA, Atlantic Sun, Ohio Valley Conference and Southland Conference. She has also worked games at the Division II level in the GMAC, Heartland and Lonestar conferences, and in the National Pro Fastpitch League.
"We're grateful for the opportunity to bring Shelley on board to manage our softball umpires," said Britz. "Her experience at multiple levels of collegiate softball, including Division II, gives me great confidence in her ability to lead and develop an umpiring program that rivals any in the country."
Mangrum's assignments have included serving as a NCAA Division II Softball Championship regional crew chief, the National Junior College Tournament and the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
In addition to her on-field duties, Mangrum has also assisted in umpire coordination at several Division I conferences.
"I am honored and excited to be joining the South Atlantic Conference staff," said Mangrum. "I hold the SAC in the highest of regards and have a great deal of respect for each SAC institution."
Mangrum is a 1982 graduate of Middle Tennessee St. University.
