Anderson’s Diaz, Wingate’s Krauser Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year Award
Anderson women’s basketball student-athlete Alissa Diaz and Wingate volleyball student-athlete Grace Krauser have been selected to represent the SAC as nominees for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
INDIANAPOLIS – Anderson women's basketball student-athlete Alissa Diaz and Wingate volleyball student-athlete Grace Krauser have been selected to represent the SAC as nominees for the 2013 NCAA Woman of the Year award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service and leadership. A total of 455 student-athletes were nominated for the award. Diaz and Krauser are among 90 nominees from Division II.
Diaz was the 2012-13 SAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year after leading Anderson to both the conference's regular season and tournament championships. She was also named an All-American by DII Bulletin. The team captain averaged 17.1 points per game.
Diaz was an active member of the Anderson Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and served with groups that include Special Olympics and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. She graduated with a 3.37 GPA in biology.
Krauser was an All-SAC Second Team selection and helped lead Wingate to the program's seventh-straight SAC title in 2012. The Bulldogs also won the Food Lion SAC Volleyball Championship went on to reach the national quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship.
Krauser won the NCAA Volleyball Elite 89 Award – which recognizes the student-athlete with the highest GPA at the final site of each championship – for the second time in her career. She was awarded Wingate's C.C. Burris Award at her commencement ceremony, earning recognition for her ideals of scholarship, leadership and service.
The list of NCAA Woman of the Year nominees will next be scaled down to 30 – 10 from each division. Nine finalists will then be selected in September by the NCAA Woman of the Year Committee, with the winner being announced on Oct. 20 at the award's annual ceremony in Indianapolis.
