Tusculum's Rakes Named Capital One Baseball Academic All-American of the Year
Tusculum College pitcher Taylor Rakes has been named the 2013 Capital One NCAA Division II Baseball Academic All-American of the Year, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Rakes becomes the first student-athlete in school history to be named Academic All-American of the Year for their sport.

Alex Regan tossed eight strong innings and the top-seeded Mount Olive Trojans posted a five spot in the bottom of the fourth to push past Lincoln Memorial, 9-3, on Thursday in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional.

Catawba starting pitcher Nick Lomascolo has been named a semifinalist for the 2013 Tino Martinez Award, which recognizes the Division II baseball national player of the year. Lomascolo is one five semifinalists from the southeast region.

Four student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the 2013 Academic All-District 3 Baseball Team, it was announced on Thursday. Players receiving Academic All-District honors must have legitimate athletic credentials, possess at least a 3.30 GPA and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
