Catawba, Newberry Represented on ABCA All-Region Team
Three student-athletes from Catawba and two from Newberry have been selected to the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Team, the organization has announced.
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Three student-athletes from Catawba and two from Newberry have been selected to the 2013 American Baseball Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Team, the organization has announced.
Representing Catawba on the team were first baseman Chris Dula, outfielder Keaton Hawks and starting pitcher Nick Lomascolo. All three players were selected to the First Team.
Dula earned SAC Player of the Year honors after hitting .402 with 14 home runs and 54 RBI in 2013. With the season officially having come to an end for every team in the conference, Dula finished first in the league in batting average, first in home runs and tied for first in RBI.
Lomascolo – the SAC Pitcher of the Year – won 10 games for the Indians while posting a 2.14 ERA, which was fourth-best in the conference. He also led the nation in strikeouts with 123.
Hawks hit .346 and ranked fifth in the conference with eight home runs and eighth in RBI with 48.
Newberry, meanwhile, had two players named to the ABCA All-Region Second Team – third baseman Ryan Cranmer and starting pitcher Jonathan Rosenberger. Cranmer finished fourth in the SAC with a .368 batting average, while Rosenberger ranked third in the league in victories with eight and fifth in ERA at 2.51.
