Wingate’s Nallenweg Named SAC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Wingate senior quarterback Robbie Nallenweg has been selected as the 2013 SAC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the seventh player in conference history to repeat as the award’s recipient.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate senior quarterback Robbie Nallenweg has been selected as the 2013 SAC Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year, becoming the seventh player in conference history to repeat as the award's recipient.
Nallenweg's back-to-back selections also make it three-straight years that a Wingate student-athlete has received the honor, joining Cody Haffly in 2011.
Nallenweg carries a 3.80 GPA majoring in biology. He is a multiple-year selection to the Capital One Academic All-District Team, the Wingate President's List, the Wingate Dean's List and the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
On the field, Nallenweg finished 2013 with 3,013 passing yards and 24 touchdowns – both of which ranked second in the conference. He had six 300-plus yard performances and finished fourth in the nation with a 70.3-percent completion percentage en route to being named a Harlon Hill Trophy regional finalist.
Away from football, Nallenweg has volunteered with Wingate Elementary School, Special Olympics, Boys and Girls Club and the Wingate student-athlete advisory committee. His work with the Boys and Girls Club led to a nomination to the 2012 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
"(Nallenweg) truly seemed to enjoy the intellectual challenge of solving problems," said Wingate chemistry professor Chris Dahm. "Not only was Robbie a good student, he was also an enjoyable person to have in the classroom."
The SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented to one student-athlete in each of the conference's 18 championship sports, and represents excellence in athletics, academics, service and leadership.
