SAC Names Catawba’s Zubillaga as Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Catawba senior Julio Zubillaga has been voted as the 2014 SAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Friday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Catawba senior Julio Zubillaga has been voted as the 2014 SAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the conference announced on Friday.
Zubillaga carries a 3.81 GPA majoring in business with a concentration in information systems. He is a Junior Marshal, and has been a member of the Alpha Chi Honors Society, the Catawba Dean's List, the Catawba Presidential Honor Roll, the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Phi Beta Lambda business honor society, Phi Sigma Lota foreign language honor society, and the Capital One Academic All-District Team.
Zubillaga was a member of the SAC Gold Glove Team at second base, and hit .270 with a .370 on-base percentage and 33 RBI this season for the conference-champion Indians.
Away from baseball, Zubillaga is a member of Catawba's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and volunteers with Trinity Oaks Senior Center, the VS. Cancer charity and Phi Beta Lambda.
SAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards are voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives committee, and are presented to one student-athlete in all 18 championship sports. The awards recognize excellence in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
