Newberry’s Goodwin, Catawba’s Kronenfeld Earn Academic All-America Honors
The 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Baseball Team was unveiled on Thursday, with Newberry senior Chas Goodwin and Catawba senior Paul Kronenfeld earning selections from the SAC.
MACLEAN, Va. – The 2014 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Baseball Team was unveiled on Thursday, with Newberry senior Chas Goodwin and Catawba senior Paul Kronenfeld earning selections from the SAC.
To be eligible for Academic All-America selections, student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30, have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing, and be nominated by a sports information director.
Goodwin and Kronenfeld were each named to the Academic All-America Second Team. Goodwin has a 3.98 GPA studying chemistry and biology, while Kronenfeld carries a 3.94 GPA in business administration.
Kronenfeld, an outfielder, hit .361 with six home runs, 43 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 2014 for Catawba, which reached the NCAA Tournament. Goodwin, meanwhile, hit .211 with a .366 on-base percentage at the catcher position.
