Capital One Academic All-America At-Large Team Recognizes Six from the SAC
Six SAC student-athletes were recently named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Men’s and Women’s At-Large Team, which spans the league-sponsored sports of tennis and golf.
TOWSON, Md. – Six SAC student-athletes were recently named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II Men’s and Women’s At-Large Team, which spans the league-sponsored sports of tennis and golf.
Three of the SAC student-athletes honored earned spots on the
Academic All-America First Team. On the men’s team,
Wingate senior golfer Braden Jackson and Newberry senior golfer
Matthew Killen earned first-team accolades. Jackson finished
with a 3.93 GPA studying accounting, while Killen earned a 3.96 GPA
majoring in business administration.
Newberry also had a first-team selection on the women’s side
in golfer Maria Luz Besio. The senior ended the 2011-12
academic year with a 3.95 GPA in business administration.
Two more SAC student-athletes -- Wingate tennis player Matthew
Lichtenstein and Tusculum tennis player Luis Zamora -- were named
to the men’s third team.
Lichtenstein, a senior, compiled a 3.78 GPA majoring in history,
while Zamora, a junior, has a 3.96 GPA in economics and
international business.
Rounding out the SAC’s representation on the Academic
All-America Team was Tusculum women’s golfer Jullian Corum,
who also earned third-team honors.
Corum is a junior with a 3.63 GPA in business administration.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration,
a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve,
maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have reached sophomore
athletic and academic standing.
