Three SAC Baseball Players Selected as Capital One Academic All-Americans
Three student-athletes from the SAC have been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Baseball Team, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.
TOWSON, Md. – Three student-athletes from the SAC have been named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Baseball Team, CoSIDA announced on Thursday.
Tusculum’s Taylor Rakes and Cody Coffman were selected to the First Team, while Wingate’s Jacob Karr earned a spot on the Second Team.
Tusculum was the only school to place two student-athletes on the Academic All-America First Team.
Coffman, a senior, finished the year with a 3.59 GPA majoring in physical therapy. He was also named an All-American for his on-field performance last week by Daktronics.
Rakes, the SAC Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2012, finished his junior year with a 3.88 GPA studying business and economics.
Coffman and Rakes helped lead TC to both the SAC regular season and tournament titles in 2012.
Karr, meanwhile, completed his senior season at Wingate with a 3.68 GPA in the field of accounting. The infielder was key in leading Wingate to a fourth-place finish in the SAC standings and a run to the title game of 2012 Food Lion SAC Baseball Championship.
To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America consideration, a student-athletes must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
