Queens Wins NCAA Women's Cross Country Southeast Regional; SAC Teams Claim Top Four Spots in the Race
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (TheSAC.com) - Queens, Wingate, Anderson, and Lenoir-Rhyne took the top four spots at the NCAA Women's Cross Country Southeast Region Championship on Saturday (Nov. 6). Queens placed first, followed by Wingate in second, Anderson in third, and Lenoir-Rhyne in fourth. Carson-Newman placed seventh overall, followed by Lincoln Memorial in 10th, Catawba in 11th, Tusculum in 13th, Newberry in 20th, and Limestone in 22nd.
Individually, Lara Orrock from Wingate won the 6K event with a time of 20:21, followed by Queens Fatima Alanis in second at 20:37, and teammates Cherise Carreira in third at 20:47, and Madison Synowiec in fourth at 21:16. Spots five through eight belonged to SAC runners: Janet Kwambi, Lenoir-Rhyne (21:24), Stevie Lawrence, Queens (21:26), Lauryn Tumey, Wingate (21:45), Mollie Scott, Wingate (21:45).
Queens' Anna Janike rounded out the SAC runners in the top-10 with a time of 21:53.
Queens, Wingate, and Anderson all receive automatic bids to the NCAA Division II National Championship at the Abbey Course in Saint Leo, Fla. on Nov. 20. The full field of teams and individuals will be announced on Monday, Nov. 8.
