Twenty-Five SAC Women's Cross Country Student-Athletes, Seven Teams Named USTFCCCA All-Academic
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced their 2019 NCAA Division II Individual and Team Academic Awards on Thursday, Jan. 30. seven South Atlantic Conference teams were represented on the women's team list, with 25 runners receiving recognition.
In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-30 percent of their respective regional championship meet, among other qualifiers.
Overall, there were 403 women who were named All-Academic Individuals in NCAA Division II. Anderson and Queens led the way for the SAC with seven honorees each. Wingate had six, while Catawba had four and Carson-Newman rounded out the SAC with one honoree.
Overall, there were 148 women's teams that received All-Academic honors in NCAA Division II. The SAC schools accounted for seven of the women's teams. Anderson, led by Head Coach Kevin Eagle, earned a 3.61 GPA. Carson-Newman, under the leadership of Head Coach Luke Greer, collected a 3.61 GPA. Jason Bryan's Catawba women earned a 3.5 GPA. Lincoln Memorial, under the tutelage of Jeremy Donahue, collected a 3.55 GPA. Thomas Scott's Queens women racked up a 3.72 GPA. Head Coach Cory Pratt 's Tusculum Pioneers tallied a 3.18 GPA. Wingate, coached by Matt Van Lierop, rounded out the SAC schools with a 3.25 GPA.
