Carson-Newman's De Sousa and Sangare Named South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Carson-Newman's Sade De Sousa was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, and Carson-Newman's Kadidja Sangare was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets contested during the third week of the indoor track & field season, the Conference office announced today.
De Sousa, a junior sprinter from Windholeck, Khonas, Namibia, earned two NCAA provisional marks while picking up two medals at the VMI Invitational. She won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.41 seconds, earning herself a new personal record, while also setting the record for the best 60-meter time in her home country of Namibia. DeSousa also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.05 seconds.
Sangare, a freshman jumper from South Holland, Netherlands, placed first in the long jump and posted an NCAA provisional mark at the VMI Invitational last week. She won the event with a leap of six meters. She also posted an NCAA provisional time of 8.81 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, placing fourth in the event.
