Queens' Ulseth Takes Third in Pentathlon at NCAA Championships
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Queens University of Charlotte's Elise Ulseth of the women's track and field team competed in the pentathlon at the 2021 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships this afternoon finishing third overall to earn All-American status.
"Elise is the consummate competitor," Queens director of cross country and track and field Jim Vahrenkamp stated. "The multi, like life, is full of challenges and new experiences. Today, Elise was able to navigate several of those challenges coupled with two personal bests to finish third by one point. It was extremely gratifying to continue to see her maturation and development as a person and an athlete."
Ulseth totaled 3,888 points to set a new school record in the event. The junior started the day setting a new program record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.60-seconds for 995 points. She then recorded a mark of 1.70-meters (5-7) in the high jump for 855 points and followed that collecting 523 points in the shot put. In the long jump, Ulseth recorded a jump of 5.68-meters (18-7 ¾) for 753 points, and she finished the day clocking a time of 2:24.58 for 762 points in the 800-meter run.
The NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships will continue through Saturday in Birmingham, Ala., at the Birmingham CrossPlex. The University of Montevallo and the City of Birmingham will serve as co-hosts of the championships.
