Carson-Newman’s Wade Selected as D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year, Nine South Atlantic Conference Women’s Soccer Student-Athletes Earn All-Region Team Honors
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference placed nine women's soccer student-athletes to the 2017 D2CCA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams, the organization announced today. Carson-Newman senior midfielder Lauren Wade has been selected as the 2017 D2CCA NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Player of the Year for Women's Soccer. Joining Wade on the First-Team, Eagles teammate, Helen Seed, and Queen's Alana Jefferson.
Wade, a senior from Coleraine, Northern Ireland, finished the regular season ranked No. 1 in the league in goals, assists, points and game-winning goals. She found the back of the net a league leading 12 times, five of which sealed the victory for the Eagles. She ranked 16th in the nation with 2.07 goals per game and ended the season eighth in the nation with .60 assists per game. In 16 games played and started, she recorded 98 shots, just nine short of tops in the SAC. Wade turned in three multi-goal games this season and recorded the fifth-fastest hat trick in NCAA Division II History. Her fourth-career hat trick and second against Tusculum came almost to the day (Oct. 19, 2016) of her last hat trick against the Pioneers. She scored three goals in less than four minutes to give the Eagles a 3-0 win at Tusculum on October 18. Wade was tabbed the Astroturf Women's Soccer Player of the Week on October 23. The award marks her second-straight Region Player of the Year award.
