ROCK HILL, S.C. – The 2013 Food Lion SAC Women' Soccer Championship bracket is set, with Lenoir-Rhyne earning the top seed after the Bears clinched their fourth-straight regular-season conference title.
L-R defeated Queens 3-1 on Saturday afternoon to finish 9-1-1 in the conference and 13-3-1 overall. The Bears shared the 2010 SAC title before capturing the last three outright. They are only the second program in league history to win or share four-straight conference titles, matching Presbyterian's run from 1996 through 1999.
Lenoir-Rhyne – the event's defending champion - will open the SAC Championship on Tuesday at home against No. 8 seed Carson-Newman, which secured a spot in the bracket by playing Anderson to a draw on Saturday.
Earning the SAC Championship's No. 2 seed is Wingate, which finished 8-2-1 in conference play. WU will host a quarterfinal on Tuesday against seventh-seeded Newberry, which went 5-6 in the league.
Newberry and Carson-Newman finished with identical point totals in the SAC standings – 15 – but the Wolves earned the higher seed by virtue of their head-to-head win over the Eagles on Oct. 12.
Tusculum will be the bracket's No. 3 seed and will host a quarterfinal match against sixth-seeded Queens. TC went 7-2-2 in the SAC, while Queens finished 5-4-2.
Catawba defeated Mars Hill on Saturday, vaulting the Indians past Lincoln Memorial and Queens in the SAC standings to a fourth-place finish. Catawba – which went 6-4-1 in the conference - will host fifth-seeded LMU on Tuesday. The Railsplitters finished 6-5 in the league.
Following Tuesday's campus-site quarterfinal round, the semifinals and finals of the SAC Championship will take place at Manchester Meadows in Rock Hill, S.C. on Nov. 8 and 10. Complete information on the event can be found at SAC Championship Central.
