Carson-Newman’s Trenna Howell Named MVP Of Food Lion SAC Women’s Soccer Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman freshman forward Trenna Howell, who scored seven goals in three tournament goals, was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference women's soccer tournament.
Howell had three goals in a quarterfinal win over Mars Hill, and followed that with another hat trick in a 3-1 semifinal win over Lenoir-Rhyne. She scored Carson-Newman's lone goal in the championship. Joining Howell on the All-Tournament Team from Carson-Newman are junior defender Shea Kinzer, junior defender Jessie Stephens and freshman goalkeeper Lauren MacKenzie.
Tournament runner-up Catawba placed three on the All-Tournament Team: senior forward Paige Harrington; junior forward Tasha Wilhelm and senior defender Alyssa Schoenberg. Harrington scored four goals, including Catawba's goal in the championship.
Semifinalists Lenoir-Rhyne University and Wingate University each placed two on the All-Tournament Team. Freshman Catherine Hauck, who had two goals in a quarterfinal win and freshman midfielder Kaelia Frazier were selected from Lenoir-Rhyne, while defender Sam Baldwin and midfielder Lisa Service made the squad from Wingate.
