Newberry College Women’s Soccer Receives Awards From NSCAA
NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry women's soccer team extended their streak of academic and moral success as they earned two recent awards from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The team received recognition with the Team Academic Award and the Sportsmanship Award.
"We have very high goals academically for the team, so this is
great recognition for the achievements our ladies have made in the
classroom," stated head coach Juan Pablo Favero. "The sportsmanship
award is a very prestigious and important award for any team to
receive and we are very excited to get it. Sportsmanship and fair
play are a huge aspect of the program we are building."
It is the third consecutive year the team has earned the academic
honor and the second consecutive year for the sportsmanship credit.
The ladies more than achieved the requirements for the academic
award, which state that team GPA must be above a 3.0. The team
compiled zero red cards and just eight yellow cards all season,
making them eligible for the "Bronze" Sportsmanship Award. Very few
collegiate programs receive the sportsmanship honor on a consistent
basis.
