Newberry College Women’s Soccer Earns Academic Award from NSCAA
MISSION, Kan. - The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has again recognized the Newberry women's soccer team, this time for accomplishments off the field. The NSCAA has awarded the Lady Indians with the College Team Academic Award, as well as the coveted Team Ethics Award.
Newberry College is one of the intercollegiate soccer programs who posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the academic recognition. This is the second consecutive year the Lady Indians have received this award.
The Team Ethics recognition is based on the number of yellow cards (warnings for unfair play) and total fouls. The Lady Indians received only three cards the entire season. In 2004 Newberry was the least penalized team in the South Atlantic Conference, as they were only called for 126 fouls. The Lady Indians committed 21 fewer fouls than the next closest team in the conference.
The Lady Indians compiled the best record in school history this
past season, finishing at 13-5-1 on the year.
