Lenoir-Rhyne’s Davis, Carson-Newman’s Angus Named 2004-05 SAC Athletes of Year
ROCK HILL, SC - Lenoir-Rhyne College's Roman Davis, the first two-time men's basketball Player of the Year, and Carson-Newman College's Rebecca Angus, an All-American women's soccer player who helped lead the Lady Eagles to the Final Four, have been named the 2004-05 South Atlantic Conference Male and Female Athletes of the Year following a vote of the league's Directors of Athletics, the conference office announced today.
The SAC Male and Female Athlete of the Year awards are given annually to one male and one female student-athlete based on athletic performance in one or more sports, and the impact of that performance on the SAC and NCAA Division II.
Davis, a senior forward for the Bears, led the SAC in scoring with an 18.5 average. He was seventh in rebounding at 6.0 per game. He shot 53.8 percent from the field and 83.1 percent from the free-throw line. He was a First Team All-Conference selection for the third year in a row. He was named to the 2004-05 Daktronics, Inc., and NABC All-South Atlantic Region first teams. In 2003, Davis was named the Food Lion SAC Tournament MVP after leading the Bears to the tournament championship. He was the league's Freshman of the Year in 2002.

He finished his career at Lenoir-Rhyne ranked seventh in school
history in scoring (1,619), third in blocked shots (147) and eighth
in field-goal percentage (54.7 percent).
Angus, a rising junior forward from Middlesborough, England, scored a league-high 18 goals and had nine assists for 45 points. She led the SAC in shots, shots per game, points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals.
She was named the SAC Women's Soccer Player of the Year,
All-Region, All-American and the All-Final Four team. She helped
lead Carson-Newman to its best women's soccer season in school
history. The Lady Eagles finished the season 19-3-2 and ranked
third in the country.
