Anderson Wins 2019 South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Championship
HICKORY, N.C. – The South Atlantic Conference wrapped up the 2019 Women's Golf Championship at the Lake Hickory Country Club on Tuesday afternoon and it was the Anderson University Trojans who took the team title, shooting 10-over par in the final two rounds to overcome a day one deficit and win the tournament by four strokes.
Individually, it was Maeve Cummins from Carson-Newman, the newly installed SAC Freshman of the Year, who won the medal with a three-over par. She was followed closely by Diana McDonald and Lenoir-Rhyne's duo of Abbey Hartsell and Megan Robb who tied for third. Wrapping up the top-five and the All-Tournament First Team was a pair from Anderson in Kate Hill and Tiffany Elam.
The All-Tournament Second Team includes Lenoir-Rhyne's Ainee O'Connor and Nabila Inak of Newberry in a tie for seventh place, while Alyssa Campbell of Coker and Lise Malherbe of Lincoln Memorial tied for ninth.
Going into the final day of play, it was a three-horse race but after the Trojans secured the lead for good, it was the host school Lenoir-Rhyne who took the two spot on the leaderboard. Wingate placed third, three shots behind the Bears. Wrapping up the top-five finishers are Carson-Newman in fourth place and Coker in fifth.
With the win, Anderson earns an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division II South Regional on May 6-8 at the Cleveland Country Club in Cleveland, Tenn. The remaining schools will have their postseason fates determined on April 29.
