Carson-Newman’s Tunnell In 30th Place At NCAA Women’s Golf Championship
ALLENDALE, Mich. - Carson-Newman freshman Mary Tunnell (Memphis, Tenn.) fell back two spots to 30th placed despite shooting her best round of the season, a 3-over-par 75, on Friday in the third round of the 2011 NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championships at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich.
Tunnell has a three-round total of 230 (+14) and is seven strokes out of the top 15 with one round remaining.
Tunnell fired a 1-under-par 36 on the front nine as she tallied eight pars and a birdie on the par-4 fifth hole. However, she struggled on the back nine with bogeys on the 12th and 16th holes and a double bogey on No. 18.
Nova Southeastern's Taylor Collins remained atop the leaderboard after carding a 6-under-par 66 on Friday. Collins has a three-day total of 203 (-13) and holds an eight stroke lead over teammate Abbey Gittings. Gittings has a three-round score of 211 (-5).
Nova Southeastern leads the tournament with a three-round total of 857 (-5), while Rollins College is second with a score of 884 (+20). Florida Southern is in third with a score of 885 (+21).
Tunnell will tee off with the first group at 8:30 a.m. for
Saturday's final round.
