Anderson's Mollenhauer Named to 2020 WBCA NCAA DII Coaches' All-American Team and D2CCA All-American First Team, Carson-Newman's Marosites Receives Honorable Mention in Both
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's senior guard Alexy Mollenhauer was named to the WBCA NCAA DII Coaches' All-America Team, announced by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association earlier today. She was also named to the Division II Conference Commissioners Association Women's Basketball All-American First Team(D2CCA). Receiving an honorable mention in both was Carson-Newman senior guard Kayla Marosites.
SAC Player of the Year Mollenhauer was one of 10 women's basketball players to earn this honor. She averaged a double-double over the past two seasons and ranks third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,949 career points. Earlier this month, the Lindale, Texas native was named SAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and rounded out her senior campaign by leading the conference in both scoring (19.7 ppg.) and rebounding (12.4 rpg.) She eclipsed the 1000-career rebound mark in mid-February, becoming the only AU player in history to reach the milestone.
Marosites finished her career starting all 95 games that the program played since her arrival on campus. This honor is the 25th of a career that features three All-SAC selections, two all-region nods and an Academic All-American tally. The program's record holder for career double-doubles, 58, and rebounding average, 11.3, is seventh on the scoring list with 1,387, second in rebounds with 1,072 and fifth in triples at 157.
The WBCA presents the Player of the Year award annually to the top player in five of the six WBCA membership divisions (NCAA Divisions II, and III, NAIA, two-year college and high school). The Player of the Year and the 10-member Coaches' All-America team in each division are selected by a committee of WBCA member coaches in that division. The Wade Trophy is presented to the best player in NCAA Division I.
"Congratulations to WBCA NCAA Division II Player of the Year Hailey Diestelkamp and the members of the WBCA NCAA Division II Coaches' All-America team," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle M. Donehew. "These young women have performed at an elite level of play throughout the season, and have inspired fans and young athletes alike. The WBCA is proud to honor each of these student-athletes whose dedication and commitment to the sport has helped elevate our game to a new level."
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-America and All-Region Basketball Teams are sponsored by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
