The South Atlantic Conference Raises $14,500 for Kay Yow Cancer Fund
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference women's basketball member institutions raised $14,500 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund during the 2018-19 season. Anderson raised the most money for the initiative in the Conference, as it raised $6,305. This is the largest amount raised by a SAC school in 10 years.
The South Atlantic Conference joined the initiative in raising money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund during the 2008-2009 season and to date has raised more than $126,500.
"We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the SAC, its administrators, women's basketball coaches and athletic directors for their continued support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and our Play4Kay initiative," said Jenny Palmeeter, Director of Play4Kay. "As a conference, you continue to lead the way, raising money to aid in the fight against all cancers affecting women. This speaks volumes about who you are and the impact you wish to make."
Newberry raised the second highest amount, bringing in $1,500, while Lincoln Memorial was third raising $1,344 and Carson-Newman and Wingate tied for fourth with $1,000 raised.
"Once again our women's basketball teams have stepped up and I could not be more proud of them," said SAC Senior Associate Commissioner Eliane Kebbe. "It is an honor to not only raise money for the fight against cancer, but to help promote and educate our student-athletes, coaches and fans about the Kay Yow Cancer Fund."
"I cannot thank everyone enough for all of their hard work and dedication to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund," said SAC Commissioner Patrick Britz. "Service and Community Engagement are pillars of Division II and the SAC embraces these, as well. The continued commitment of our member institutions and Eliane Kebbe to this worthy cause continues to amaze me."
