The South Atlantic Conference Announces Seeds for the 2016 SAC Women's Basketball Championship (VIDEO)
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson, ranked No. 21 in the nation, won its third South Atlantic Conference Regular-Season Championship in four years and second-straight title as it captured the 2015-16 Championship. With the crown, the Trojans have earned the No. 1 seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship, it was determined today as the Conference season concluded this afternoon. Anderson finished the season with an 18-4 League record.
Newberry and Wingate tied for second with identical 15-7 SAC records. The Wolves swept the season series from the Bulldogs to earn the No. 2 seed. Mars Hill picked up the No. 4 seed as it posted a 14-8 record in League play, while Lincoln Memorial grabbed the No. 5 seed as it turned in a 13-9 record in the SAC. Catawba and Carson-Newman finished with 12-10 records in League action. Catawba defeated the Eagles twice during the regular season to break the tie and come in at the No. 6 seed, leaving Carson-Newman at No. 7. Lenoir-Rhyne rounds out the seeds at No. 8. Tusculum and Lenoir-Rhyne each went 11-11 in Conference play. However, Lenoir-Rhyne went 1-1 vs. Newberry to break the tie and earn a berth to the tournament.
The 2016 South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Championship quarterfinals will be played at campus sites on Wednesday, March 2 before moving to Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C. for the semifinals and finals on March 5 and 6. The South Atlantic Conference's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament. The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
