Anderson’s Diaz, Newberry’s Lepaio Selected to Daktronics All-Region Team

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Anderson senior Alissa Diaz and Newberry sophomore Haylee Lepaio have been named to the Daktronics Women's Basketball All-Southeast Region First Team, it was announced on Thursday. Lepaio and Diaz were the SAC's top two scorers this season.

Diaz, the SAC Player of the Year, led Anderson to the conference's regular-season and tournament titles by averaging 16.9 points per game. She was also named the SAC Championship MVP after scoring 55 points in three tournament games.

Diaz has scored in double-digits in all but two games this season for the Trojans, including eight 20-point performances. She also averages 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 48.2-percent from the field.

Anderson is the No. 3 seed at this weekend's NCAA Division II Basketball Championship Southeast Regional.

Lepaio, meanwhile, led the SAC in scoring this season at 18.1 points per game and ranked second in rebounding at nine per game, leading Newberry to a fourth-place finish in the conference standings. The All-SAC First Team selection had 10 double-doubles in 2012-13.

Lepaio reached double figures in scoring in every game she played this season, with the exception of a Feb. 13 loss at Wingate where she left the contest after just two minutes following an injury. She shot 52.6-percent from the field, good for third in the SAC, and also ranked third in the league with 38 blocks.

Newberry's season came to a close last week in a SAC Championship semifinal loss Anderson.
