Lenoir-Rhyne’s Starkey Named Region 3 Women’s Basketball Coach Of The Year
LILBURN, Ga. - Lenoir-Rhyne University Head Women's Basketball Coach Todd Starkey has been named the 2008-09 Russell Athletic/WBCA NCAA Division II Region 3 Coach Of The Year, WBCA officials announced today. WBCA is the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Starkey, who is in his fourth season with the Bears, has led Lenoir-Rhyne to a 26-4 overall mark and a 13-3 record in league play this year as well as the South Atlantic Conference Regular Season and Food Lion SAC Tournament Championships. Both the regular season and league tournament titles were the second-ever in school history. For his efforts, Starkey was named the 2008-09 South Atlantic Conference Coach Of The Year last Friday.
L-R's 26 wins this season are the third-most in school history.
In addition, Lenoir-Rhyne earned the top seed in the 2009 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Women's Basketball Tournament and will host the tournament beginning Friday.
Starkey's overall record at L-R is 67-47.
