Wingate’s Tanetra Barrett Named Women’s Basketball Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Wingate University senior Tanetra Barrett, of Marshville, N.C., has been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 25. Barrett helped the Bulldogs to a pair of wins to secure the league championship and claimed the player of the week honor for the fifth time this season.
Barrett, a product of Forest Hills High School, scored a career-high 40 points in a 90-76 win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday that clinched the SAC title for Wingate. The 5-6 guard connected on 13-of-18 shots from the field and made 12-of-13 at the line. She added seven rebounds and four assists. In the regular-season finale, Barrett had 23 points with eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals in the 79-57 victory at Carson-Newman.
For the week, Barrett averaged 31.5 points, while hitting on 62 percent of her field goal attempts (21-of-43). She made three-of-eight from behind the arc and connected on 86 percent (18-of-21) at the line. Barrett also chipped in with 7.5 rebounds, six assists and 2.5 steals in the two wins. She is 54 points shy of reaching 2,000 points in her career.
The South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week is voted on by the Sports Information Directors of the member schools.
