Anderson's Grant Named SAC Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Kasey Grant has been named the South Atlantic Conference Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports, and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service and leadership.
Grant, a junior from Comer, Ala., has a 4.0 GPA in biochemistry. She is a three-time Dean's List selection, a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society, a Anderson Science Association member and she is a member of the the Alpha Chi Honor Society. She was a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and is a three-time SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
"This is an amazing honor for Kasey, Anderson University Athletics and Anderson University," said Anderson head softball coach Tommy Hewitt. "Kasey is an extremely well organized young woman who works diligently and is very reliable. She sets a tremendous example for her peers through her high motivation and her ability to get things done in the classroom and on the field. Kasey has a willingness to be both generous and constant in her applications of time and energy, given any task she takes on. I am so, so proud of Kasey receiving the prestigious honor of being named the Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year."
A two-time team captain, Grant started all 48 games for the Trojans in 2018, batting .315 with eight doubles, three triples and three home runs. She led the team in hit-by-pitches with 11 and received the team's "Black and Blue Award" for the second consecutive year. She was third on the team in runs scored with 33 and was second in stolen bases with 15.
Grant is a very active member of the Anderson and Comer communities. She is the president of Anderson's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, is on the Anderson Athletic Commpliance Review Committee, is a member of the CREDO Committee's "Moving the Needle Project" and she represented the biochemsitry department as a part of the Accreditation Committee. She also volunteered her time at the Anderson Cancer Association Annual Bike Ride, at the NHC Healthcare of Anderson's Bingo Night and she organized Hurricane Harvey Relief efforts at Anderson. Additionally, she has volunteered with the Comer Methodist Church Vacation Bible School, she is a member of FCA and has spent more than 45 hours shadowing doctors and surgeons in Alabama and Georgia.
