The South Atlantic Conference Announces Softball Players of the Week, March 1
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Anderson's Carli Hurtado was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Week, while teammate Augie Pena was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 22-28, the League announced today.
Hurtado, a sophomore from Royston, Ga., batted .571 with eight hits and two RBI to lead the Trojans to a 4-0 record last week. She posted a hit in each game she played, including a pair of three hit contests. She scored five runs for the Trojans and posted an on-base percentage of .600 and a .643 slugging percentage in the four-game span. The honor is her first Player of the Week selection this season.
Pena, a junior from Geneva, Ala., went 2-0 in her starts for the Trojans last week. She got her week started with 10 strikeouts in a nine inning win over Pfeiffer on Feb. 27. She followed with 11 strike outs in a five inning complete game win over St. Augustine's on Feb. 28. She gave up just three runs in her outings and finished the week with a 0.00 ERA. The award is her second Pitcher of the Week nod this season.
