Carson-Newman’s Kelley, Catawba’s Tysinger Named SAC Softball Players of the Week
Carson-Newman third baseman Sara Kelley and Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger have been selected as the SAC softball weekly award winners for games played Feb. 17-23, it was announced on Tuesday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman third baseman Sara Kelley and Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger have been selected as the SAC softball weekly award winners for games played Feb. 17-23, it was announced on Tuesday.
SAC Softball Player of the Week | Sara Kelley, Carson-Newman
Kelley hit .579 with six extra-base hits in six games last week for Carson-Newman, leading the Eagles to a 5-1 record.
Kelley had hits in every C-N game last week, including three-hit performances on Monday in a 9-5 win over Georgia College and on Saturday in a 2-0 victory at Erskine. She also had a triple, a walk and an RBI on Thursday in the Eagles' 10-0 game two shutout of Limestone that gave coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield her 1,000th-career win.
The senior finished her week with nine RBI and two walks that helped result in a .591 on-base percentage. The performance earned her the Women Play Ball Division II Athlete of the Week award.
SAC Softball Pitcher of the Week | Carley Tysinger, Catawba
Tysinger was dominant in the circle for Catawba, totaling 15.1 scoreless innings and 29 strikeouts compared to only three hits and three walks.
The reigning SAC Pitcher and Freshman of the Year earned victories against Belmont Abbey on Tuesday, GRU Augusta on Friday and Belmont Abbey again on Sunday. She struck out 10 in five innings in the first Belmont Abbey game, seven in four innings against Augusta, and eight in 3.2 innings in the second BAC contest.
On the season, Tysinger leads the SAC with a 0.36 ERA and ranks fourth with 33 strikeouts.
