SAC Lands Six Softball Players on NFCA All-Region Team
Six student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Team, including two first-team picks, it was announced on Friday.
LOUISVILLE – Six student-athletes from the SAC have been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Southeast Region Team, including two first-team picks, it was announced on Friday.
Leading the SAC's list of honorees is first-team shortstop Brittany Hefner of Carson-Newman, who was also the conference's Player of the Year. Hefner hit .451 for the Eagles in 2013, belting 19 home runs – the second-most in SAC history – and finishing with a SAC-record 75 RBI. She also led the conference with a .519 on-base percentage and a .967 slugging percentage.
Joining Hefner on the NFCA All-Region First Team is Lenoir-Rhyne first baseman Jessica Fellmeth. The All-SAC Second Team selection hit .362 with three home runs and 27 RBI for the SAC Tournament-champion Bears.
Four SAC players were named to the All-Region Second Team, including conference Pitcher and Freshman of the Year Carley Tysinger of Catawba. Tysinger led the conference with 25 wins, a 1.21 ERA and 324 strikeouts – the second-highest single-season total in league history.
Joining Tysinger as second-team selections were a pair of Carson-Newman players – catcher Bri Shoemake and outfielder Kelli Hensley - and Lenoir-Rhyne third baseman Haily Jarman.
Shoemake finished fifth in the SAC with a .364 batting average, Hensley hit .386 with 13 stolen bases in 31 games, and Jarman hit .327 with seven home runs.
Shoemake and Hensley were both All-SAC First Team selections, while Jarman was a member of the Second Team.
