Carson-Newman’s Stephanie Templeton Named MVP Of 2009 Food Lion SAC Softball Tournament
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman College junior pitcher Stephanie Templeton, who won three games and threw a four-hit shutout in the championship game, was named Most Valuable Player of the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament, league officials announced today.
Templeton (Ringgold, Ga./Ringgold HS) allowed five runs in 24.1 innings of work during the tournament, including a pair of shutouts. She also hit .429 with a home run and four RBI. She was one of five Carson-Newman players named to the All-Tournament team. She was joined by Jessie Howard, Sarah Little, Amber Palmer and Whitney Durham. Little had both RBIs in the championship game.

Tournament runner-up Wingate University had four selections to the All-Tournament team. Junior Debra Grijalva, who batted .692 with 10 RBI in six tournament games, was joined by pitchers Brittany Blankenship and Allison Smith and shortstop Julie Broyer.
Lenoir-Rhyne University's Sarah Atkins, who hit .545 with three home runs and Catawba College's Ryann Baker, who hit .385 and had 13 total bases, round out the All-Tournament Team.
