Tusculum’s Holzapfel, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Griewisch Named SAC Runners Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Simon Holzapfel and Lenoir-Rhyne's Kate Griewisch have been named the South Atlantic Conference men's and women's cross country Runners of the Week for the week ending October 24, 2010. Holzapfel and Griewisch win for the fourth time this season.
Holzapfel, a senior from Nuremburg, Germany (Neves Gymnasium Nuremberg), recorded his fifth straight individual title of the season, by winning the Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational. He captured his 15th career individual title as he won the 8,000-meter race with a school-record time of 25:10.3, while shattering the the previous best by a remarkable 43 seconds. He established the previous TC record of 25:53 at last year's South Atlantic Conference Championship. He is a two-time All-Conference First Team honoree, including 2009 where he was the SAC Runner of the Year.
Griewisch, a junior from Banner Elk, N.C. (Avery County HS) won the women's race at the 2010 Lenoir-Rhyne Invitational Saturday morning at Southside Park in Newton, N.C. Griewisch ran an 18:24 over the 5K and won by one minute and six seconds over the runner-up. Griewisch, the 2009 South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II Southeast Region Runner Of The Year, helped the Bears take home the team title as L-R finished first out of 11 schools.
