Tusculum’s Holzapfel, Lenoir-Rhyne’s Griewisch Named Cross Country Runners Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - Tusculum College's Simon Holzapfel and Lenoir-Rhyne University's Kate Griewisch have been named the South Atlantic Conference men's and women's cross country Runners of the Week for the week ending September 26, 2010. Griewisch wins the award for the third straight time this season, and this is the second time this season that last year's two Runners of the Year, have swept the awards.
Holzapfel, a senior from Nuremberg, Germany (Neves Gymnasium Nuremberg) recorded his third straight individual title of the season, by winning the Bulldog Stampede at Wingate University. He captured his 13th career individual title as he won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 26:09 for the second fastest 8K time in school history. Holzapfel finished a full 1:10 ahead of the second place runner.
Griewisch, a junior from Banner Elk, N.C. (Avery County HS) finished second out of 146 total runners at the Will Wilson Citadel Invitational in James Island Country Park in Charleston, S.C. She ran an 18:35 on the 5K course and finished first among all NCAA Division II runners and helped the Bears place first in the D-II race.
