Mars Hill College Men’s Cross Country Teams Wins 12th Straight SAC Championship
CHAPIN, S.C. - Mars Hill College claimed the 2008 South Atlantic Conference Men's Cross Country Championship held on Saturday morning at the Crooked Creek Park. The Lions had 31 points to top runner-up Wingate University, who had 50 points. Mars Hill won the title for the 12th consecutive year.
Wingate's Jayce Watson repeated as Runner of the Year. Watson covered the 8k course in a time of 26:18. He finished eight seconds ahead of Simon Holzapfel, of Tusculum College, who was second at 26:26.

The top seven finishers earned first team All-SAC honors, while
the next seven were named second team All-SAC. Joining Watson and
Holzapfel on the All-Conference First Team are: Jake Maidens,
Lenoir-Rhyne; Justin Baker, Mars Hill; Trey McCain, Mars Hill; Joel
Barnett, Mars Hill and Will Mikolajczak, Mars Hill.
The All-Conference Second Team consists of: David Sanctis, Wingate;
Aaron Thomas, Mars Hill; Doug Coats, Wingate; Josh Corbin, Mars
Hill; Tesfom Mehari, Wingate; Derrick Lindsay, Lincoln Memorial and
Sean Crawford, Tusculum.
Maidens, who was third overall, was named SAC Freshman of the Year. Joining Maidens on the All-Freshman team are Barnett, of Mars Hill, Mehari, of Wingate, Lindsay, of Lincoln Memorial and Crawford, of Tusculum.
Mars Hill head coach Mike Owens, who guided the Lions was named men's cross country Coach of the Year. He was named men's Coach of the Year for the 13th consecutive year.
