Queens' Knauer Named 2021 South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Men's Track & Field
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Queens University of Charlotte's Martin Knauer was voted the 2021 South Atlantic Conference Men's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced today.
The South Atlantic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each of the Conference's championship sports, and is voted on by the SAC's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee. The winners are selected based on their achievements in academics, athletics, service, and leadership.
Knauer, a senior from Wolnzach, Germany holds a 3.93 GPA as a mathematics major. Knauer has been on the Queens Dean's List for four years, is a four-time SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, and was the recipient of the Queens Math Award in 2020.
"We're pleased with Martin's accomplishments on and off the track," said Queens head track & field coach Jim Vahrenkamp. "He continues to be a strong part of our team and a great role model for our freshmen and sophomores."
Knauer, a four-time SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship Field Athlete of the Meet selection and three-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region pick, took home first place honors five times in the shot put during the 2020-21 indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. He set the SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship shot put record with a toss of 18.21 meters and set a Queens indoor shot put record of 18.34 meters this season.
Off the track, Knauer is a Queens Resident Assistant and in 2020-21 he served as the Head Resident Assistant. He has also spent time volunteering at a rehabilitation center for inmates.
