The South Atlantic Conference Announces Men's Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week, March 30
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – Brevard's Brent Turner was tabbed the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Track Runner of the Week, while Travis McGriff from Wingate was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week for meets 21-27, the League announced today.
Turner, a junior from West Monroe, La., placed third at the Winthrop Invitational in the 1,500-meter event. In a field filled with Division I opponents, he crossed the line in 4:07.97. The honor is his first Track Runner of the Week selection this season.
McGriff, a junior from Rural Hall, N.C., had an outstanding performance in his throwing events as the Bulldogs won the Wingate Invitational. He placed second, fourth, eighth and ninth in shot, discus (40.60 meters), hammer (40.37 meters) and javelin. He posted a personal record in the shot put by a foot with his second-place throw of 14.09 meters. McGriff achieved a personal record in the javelin by eight feet with his ninth-place throw of 38.76 meters. The award is his first Field Athlete of the Week nod this season.
