Wingate’s Hall, Anderson’s Bruning, Queens’ Rustscheff Claim SAC Tennis Weekly Honors
Wingate sophomore Sebastian Hall has been selected as the SAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Anderson freshman Rebecca Bruning and Queens senior Christina Rustscheff are co-recipients of the SAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Wingate sophomore Sebastian Hall has been selected as the SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while Anderson freshman Rebecca Bruning and Queens senior Christina Rustscheff are co-recipients of the SAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week award.
SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week | Sebastian Hall, Wingate
Hall went unbeaten in singles and doubles matches last week, leading Wingate to three SAC victories that kept the Bulldogs unbeaten in conference play.
Playing at No. 2 singles, Hall earned wins over Mars Hill's Alberto Ortiz, LMU's Marcelo Alvim and Anderson's Tomas Passalacqua. He partnered with teammate Neal Towlson at No. 1 doubles, claiming victories against Euquerio Guerrero and Sam Lee of Mars Hill, Odlhran O'Sullivan-Hamill and Guilherme Rocha of LMU, and Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas of Anderson.
Hall is 14-6 in singles and 13-7 in doubles matches this season.
SAC Co-Women's Tennis Player of the Week | Rebecca Bruning, Anderson
Bruning went 4-0 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles play last week, guiding Anderson to a 3-1 team record – all against SAC opponents.
Bruning's singles wins came in the No. 3 position over LMU's Priscilla Bunlandres, Lenoir-Rhyne's Lela Sparks Thompson, Catawba's Maddy Henderson and Wingate's Becca Thomas. She also teamed with Lindsay Gregory at No. 2 doubles to pick up wins over LMU's Roksolana Prudyvus and Alexandra Granger, Lenoir-Rhyne's Nateesha Hurtt and Meaghan Liner, and Catawba's Henderson and Lauren Sledd.
She is now 11-1 this season in singles matches and 7-5 in doubles play.
SAC Co-Women's Tennis Player of the Week | Christina Rustscheff, Queens
Rustscheff played No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for Queens last week, going a combined 6-0. Behind Rustscheff, the Royals went 2-1 as a team, including league victories over Carson-Newman and Newberry.
All three of Rustcheff's singles wins came in straight-sets, and she partnered with teammate Melissa Laing to claim the pair's three doubles contests by a combined score of 24-5.
On the season, Rustscheff has a 13-3 singles record and a 17-2 doubles mark.
