Anderson’s Gonzalez, Newberry’s Adum Earn First SAC Tennis Player of the Week Awards
Anderson senior Daniel Gonzalez and Newberry junior Romina Adum each went unbeaten in singles and doubles play last week, and have been named the first SAC Tennis Players of the Week of the 2013 season, it was announced Monday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson senior Daniel Gonzalez and Newberry junior Romina Adum each went unbeaten in singles and doubles play last week, and have been named the first SAC Tennis Players of the Week of the 2013 season, it was announced Monday.
Gonzalez helped get the Anderson men off to a 1-0 start in the SAC with a 6-3 win over Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. In singles play, Gonzalez handled L-R's Filip Dobrosavijevic, 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 3 match. He also teamed with Danilo Faria in the No. 2 doubles contest to defeat L-R's Jordan Lawson and David Richardson, 8-1.
Gonzalez is 2-1 in singles play and 1-2 in doubles matches so far this season.

Adum, meanwhile, led the Newberry women to a pair of 9-0 wins over Converse and Belmont Abbey last week. On Saturday at Converse, Adum blanked Marisa Esformes in straight sets in the No. 2 singles match, and teamed with Susana Aguirre to defeat Olivia Self and Marisa Esformes in the No. 1 doubles contest, 8-6.
Then on Sunday, Adum won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles against Belmont Abbey's Katharine Miller, and teamed with Aguire in the No. 1 doubles position to defeat the BAC duo of Miller and Kirstie Jenkins, 8-4.
Adum is 4-0 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles action so for this season for the Wolves, who are 2-2 overall.
