Tusculum’s Sergio Espinosa Named Men’s Tennis Player Of The Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Sergio Espinosa of Tusculum College has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday.
Espinosa, a senior from Caracas, Venezuela, went 2-0 in singles and doubles as the No. 37 Pioneers recorded a pair of victories last week to up its winning streak to seven in a row.
Espinosa rallied from a set down to defeat Carson-Newman's Giuseppe Schwarz 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 at No. 1 singles as the Pioneers prevailed 7-2. Espinosa and No. 1 doubles partner Carlos Garcia accounted for an 8-5 pro set win over the C-N duo of Jack Harvie and Preston Sneed.
In Tusculum's 8-1 win over Tennessee Wesleyan, Espinosa recorded a straight set win (6-1, 6-3) over Newton Mizutani at the top flight.
The SAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week is selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
