Honors Continue on Night Four of NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships
GENEVA, OHIO – The All-American honors continue to pile up for South Atlantic Conference swimmers as session seven of the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships concluded on Friday evening (March 15).
Wingate's Damir Ipkaev kicked off Friday's session for the SAC with a 13th place finish in the men's 500 Freestyle. His time of 4:27.62 earned him honorable mention All-American honors.
Carson-Newman's Kyla Blakemore collected another honorable mention All-American honor, finishing 11th in the women's 100 Backstroke with a time of 55.07.
A pair of Bulldogs earned honors in the women's 100 Breaststroke, as Natalia Dwojak finished 7th with a time of 1:02.18 and Amanda Wenhold finished 9th with a time of 1:02.09.
More honors were won in the men's 100 Breaststroke, as Wingate's Andres Martijena finished 4th with a time of 52.81 and Catawba's Maks Minichowski finished 7th with a time of 53.09. Both men earned All-American recognition in the event.
Wingate's Alexander Smyre took 11th in the men's 200 Butterfly, swimming a time of 1:47.19 for honorable mention All-American status.
The night concluded with the 200 Freestyle Relays. For the women, Carson-Newman finished 12th as the team of Antonia Sanint, Chrisman Rand, Emma Bowling and Kennadi King recorded a time of 1:33.44. Wingate's Amanda Wenhold, Natalia Dwojak, Lucie Andrews and Nina Azirovic finished 16th with a time of 1:33.64.
On the men's side, Wingate's team of Ney Chagas Filho, Alexander Smyre, Damir Ipkaev, and Miguel Marcos tied for 16th with a time of 1:22.11.
The final day of the DII Swimming & Diving Championships begins Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and includes the 1650 Freestyle, 100 Freestyle, 200 Backstroke, 200 Breaststroke, and the 400 Freestyle Relay.
