Three More All-American Trophies Collected after Thursday's Session at NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships
GENEVA, OHIO – Three more individuals collected All-American honors during session five of the 2024 NCAA DII Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday (March 14).
Carson-Newman's Daniel de Oliveira kicked off Thurday's finals with a 7th place finish in the men's 100 Butterfly. The lone freshman in the A final, de Oliveira broke his own school record with a time of 46.63.
Wingate's Miguel Marcos collected another honorable mention All-American swim, this time in the men's 400 Individual Medley. He finished 16th with a time of 3:59.01 for the Bulldogs.
Another All-American trophy was earned by Wingate's Nina Azirovic, claiming 8th place in the women's 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:49.51.
Catawba's Maks Minichowski was named an honorable mention All-American in the men's 200 Freestyle, touching the wall at 1:37.81 for 16th place. Minichowski set a new school record for Catawba in the event during Thursday morning's prelims session.
The evening concluded with the men's and women's 400 Medley Relays. In the women's event, Wingate finished 7th as the team of Marta Beesmans, Amanda Wenhold, Vera Karlsson, and Nina Azirovic collected All-American honors with a time of 3:41.72. Carson-Newman took 9th in the event as Kyla Blakemore, Breanna Belcher, Chrisman Rand, and Kennadi King swam a time of 3:43.92 for honorable mention All-American recognition.
In the men's 400 Medley Relay, Carson-Newman took 11th as Daniel Ribeiro, Asger Hartvig, Daniel de Oliveira, and Arthur Gluzman swam the event in 3:11.18. Wingate followed closely in 13th place as the team of Ney Chagas Filho, Andres Martijena, Mike Topchanalis, and Manoel Silva finished with a time of 3:11.99. Both relays earned honorable mention All-American status in the event.
Through event 19, the Wingate women sit at No. 9 in the standings, while Carson-Newman sits at No. 18.
Through event 20, the Carson-Newman men sit at No. 17 in the standings, followed by Wingate at No. 18 and Catawba at No. 31.
Friday's session begins at 10:00 a.m. and will include the 500 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Butterfly, and the 200 Freestyle Relay at night.
